As I speak to more people about my upcoming classes next week, I’ve become aware that many don’t know what Krav Maga self defense is. So I thought I’d just lay it out for everyone and hopefully help answer some questions! 😊

➡️ What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is a self-defense system developed in Israel in the 1950s. It's the official hand-to-hand combat system for the Israeli Defense Forces, law enforcement and various areas of special forces worldwide. The name translates to "contact combat" in Hebrew.

Krav Maga is known for its focus on real-world situations. It combines techniques from Aikido, Boxing, Judo, Karate, Wrestling, Jiu Jitsu and other hand to hand systems.

Born from real-world situations, Krav Maga combines instinctive movements, practical techniques, and realistic training scenarios to prepare individuals for any threat. Unlike traditional martial arts, Krav Maga is designed to be easy to learn and apply, regardless of age, gender, or fitness level.

➡️What makes Krav Maga special?

Krav Maga is a simple, aggressive, and easy-to-learn and retain system that focuses on principles rather than techniques. It's designed to be accessible to anyone regardless of age, gender, or fitness level.

Krav Maga emphasizes simultaneous attack and defense. It teaches techniques like punches, kicks, knees, elbows, headbutts, throat strikes and in advanced levels ground work and defense from various weapons.

Krav Maga is an effective self-defense system because it emphasizes "controlled aggression.”

Students are taught to respond to threats with intense force and immediate counter-attacks that target vulnerable areas of the attacker's body. They are taught how to maintain focus and control to ensure the most effective response in a real-world situation; allowing for aggression when needed, but not uncontrolled or reckless.

➡️ What can I expect in my level 1 Krav Maga self defense and fitness classes?

You can expect to learn self-defense techniques, including basic strikes, kicks, defenses against common grabs, chokes, basic grappling skills, etc. You will be introduced the core principles of Krav Maga such as explosive movements and simultaneous defense/counterattack. Students will learn effective basic punches, elbows, kicks, knees, chops and more. Fighting stances and movements are taught. Students also learn defenses against common attacks, including punches, chokes, headlocks, wrist grabs, etc.  The basis for ground fighting including kicks from the ground is introduced and is built on in later levels. Each class will begin with a warm up and/or stretch.

Introductory Bag workouts (boxing/kickboxing on heavy bags), weights, body weight and other workouts will be implemented for strength training and conditioning.

Drills with a partner or group of partners using the various techniques learned in each class will be implemented for practice.

One on one coaching and group coaching from your instructor and break down of each technique to ensure understanding of proper application for effectiveness and safety.

Obviously there’s probably more that could be shared but I hope this gives some insight to those who were unsure. I hope this settles any uncertainty in minds wondering if they are capable of such a class.

The answer is Yes, you are capable.

You don’t have to be the toughest, best shape, youngest, experienced or whatever. Krav Maga self defense and fitness is for anyone who want to learn self defense, get fit, lose weight, gain strength, gain a support system and try something new! I can modify where needed, advance where needed or slow down where needed. I hope you’ll give Krav Maga self defense and fitness a try. You may turn out like me and just find yourself loving it!
