In just one short week, I’ll be opening the doors to Basic Instinct Krav Maga LLC in Sheridan, WY. While I work to check boxes, plan, adjust and attempt to prepare the business aspect of things; I keep catching myself thinking of the journey getting to this point.
I’m not someone who grew up with martial arts or self defense training. I didn’t grow up or even spend the first half of my adult life focused on fitness, health, fighting, or anything related to Krav Maga. Yet, here I am.
I found Krav Maga self defense when I was at a point in life that I needed something to remind me of who I was. I had lost myself in the stressors of everyday life, in the heartache and grief of loss and confusion of where I belong and what I’m supposed to be doing.
I was required to attend Krav Maga training due to my employment and during that first one week of 40 hours training, a part of me came alive again. As I learned the defense system and applied the techniques, I was empowered with the realization that “I can do this! It works!”
As I came to believe in the effectiveness of Krav Maga self defense, I knew if I applied myself and learned all I could, “No one could ever harm myself or a loved one again!”
In years past, I had to endure things no one should ever face and I’ve worked with many over the years, who have endured being victims of abuse, violence and attacks of all kinds. As I grew to love, appreciate and respect the Krav Maga self defense system, I knew I wanted to learn all I could so I could help others! I was trained and certified to train for the Krav Maga Worldwide Tactical Division and spent two years training for specific departments.
Then one day I decided to take a chance, follow my dreams and look into the requirements to train civilians.
Knowing the legitimacy of Krav Maga Worldwide and the level of dedication, professionalism and profiency required by their organization, I knew I wanted to be licensed through them or not at all. I wanted what I present and train to be legitimate and backed by years of evidence based testing.
The road between that time and opening the doors of Basic Instinct Krav Maga LLC has been filled with hundreds of hours of literal blood, sweat and tears. There were times I doubted I’d make it. With working a highly demanding job, having a family, and training endlessly to hone in on the skills required to pass testing to be licensed; my mind and body at times wanted to cave. BUT…that is part of the Krav Maga system. Your mind, your dedication, determination, commitment and the decision that you will NEVER give up, NEVER stop fighting and do WHATEVER IT TAKES! By the grace of God, with the support of my family and close friends and the incredible support and training of some of Krav Maga Worldwide’s top expert trainers, I finally passed testing and received my license as an instructor!
My journey is only just beginning! The road I’ve traveled to get this far was just the precursor to a lifetime of commitment.
Commitment to myself, to continued training and growth, to the instructors over me who have dedicated their time to help shape me, and to You, each person I will instruct!
So as I prepare to open my doors here in Sheridan, my hope is that you will join me on the mats at Basic Instinct Krav Maga and in the life changing experience of Krav Maga self defense!
